’ At 11 years old I asked this woman from my village if she could find me some work somewhere. I was taken to 14th Lane in Kamathipura, where I found all the women were dressed in makeup and revealing clothes standing there. The madam paid to get my hair cut and my eyebrows done. Then they said that they had bought me here to have sex with men. But I said ‘I will not do it, put me on a train and I will go back home. Then they started beating me’© Hazel Thompson

In the brothel Guddi makes her customers pay before she will have sex with them. Guddi makes between Rs 200-500 ($5-$10) per customer and she needs to earn over Rs 6,000 ($130) just to pay her rent and food a month. On top of that she has to earn money to pay off her debt bondage and send money to her family. Often the customers try to cheat her. After years of abuse, Guddi has become tough and will physically fight them to extract the correct amount.© Hazel Thompson

'' What I want to do is pay off the debt, go back to my village, open a small shop and get a small room and stay there. I am tired of Mumbai and don't even want to come back here in my life, I want to get out of this. I don't want anyone to say anything bad about me. I want to clear everything and go back to my mother and father.'© Hazel Thompson
